Doctor Loans
As of January 1, 2009, Doctors who do not participate in State programs (such as Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP) in areas where there is a shortage of these programs, the doctor will no longer be eligible for any State loan repayment or loan forgiveness program. This new rule attempts to increase the availability to State health care programs. Will this help? Rather, will this increase costs to help cover the doctor’s expensive education?
Where do these doctors receive help in repaying or forgiving their loans? According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, there are currently 91 grant opportunities from State and Federal programs.
